AmeriCorps
04:17pm 16/07/2009

mood: Thunking
So it was suggested to me to check out AmeriCorps, previously I had looked at Peace Corps and had decided that I was not rugged enough to work with them, but had completely ignored the american based organization.

I filled out a few applications, mostly job placement (irony!) and computer education, and about an hour later I have one response already. I'm not sure if it was just a hard sell or if I would have the "job" if i took it, but it sounds kind of promising. This one was in Anchorage, but the majority of the ones i applied to were in Seattle. Seattle would be great because I could make a boat load of contacts in the animation world if i lived in that city. Anchorage is pretty and responded quickly.

We'll see, i need to find some honest reviews from people who have done this in order to see if it's for me, but at this point, i mean, it ain't like i'm getting a real job at the moment, and this pays a hell of a lot better than minimum wage and stops my tuition for a year.

T-Mobile Woes
01:19pm 16/07/2009
For the past thirty minutes i've been unable to check my voice mail due to "all lines being busy."

I'd call to complain to T-Mobile, but... well...

Trixie T-Mobile!

I think history is really rewriting itself...

...with this whole michael jackson thing. CNN's headline right now is "best father ever".

for a guy who used to dangle his baby outside of a window, i kind of wonder what it takes to be the "worst father ever".

Working Laptop
05:23pm 06/07/2009
Well I took the suggestion ya'll gave me and installed ubuntu onto the laptop. So far so good, Linux seems to have become more user friendly since the last time i used it.

In other news. Roadblocks upon roadblocks are popping up in regards to me going back to college. It's sad when i can't even figure out a way to afford UALR... a school that costs 1/3 the money of my last one. I think i'll stop my bitching there this time.

Viruses
05:29pm 02/07/2009
My mom's laptop has a great virus. it prevents updating your computer and going to websites that have anti-virus in the title.

if i can fix it i can have the laptop, my mom was already told by the best buy jerks that it was unfixable and therefor needed to buy a new laptop. i swear, my parents aren't ignorant about computers, and she could use a new laptop anyway, but when people who are supposed to be smart about computers abuse their power, it makes me a little mad.

Paul *could also use a new old laptop*

Post-Bach
06:08pm 01/07/2009
Well, I spoke with the Computer Science Masters admissions today at UALR. I have been accepted into the Post-Bach program (due to my lack of recent computer science). I have to take 6 undergrad classes and pass the GRE but then I can begin my Grad studies in Computer Science. Since it's going to take two semesters anyway, and since i get more benefits from being a full time student (4 classes a semester), I elected to take Calculus 1 and 2 to fill in the holes and to refresh myself (it's not required since i took them 10 years ago, but who remembers that stuff).

Hopefully this will make me more marketable whenever the economy turns around, and UALR is 1/5th the cost of the Art Center, which is nice. Also, there's non-traditional student apartments (one bed/one bath) for $450 a month, all utilities included, which is ridiculously cheap and convenient since i still don't have a car.

now if i can get a job on campus then i'll reluctantly accept that i'm back in arkansas... for now.

Paul *triumvirate?*

I'm not sure if this makes me a bad person...
12:59pm 26/06/2009
... But a high school friend of mine, who played D&D with us, is going to jail this weekend for being caught in one of those "to catch a predator" type police raids. just in time for me to take his spot (although not his seat he had BO issues) in the old gaming group.

which by the way, still play once a week, which is so cool in a geek kind of way.

i'm mostly happy because i really don't like pedophilia and didn't want to compromise my beliefs to hang out with old friends and pretend i'm a paladin.

I don't remember that in the movie
05:57pm 25/06/2009
So i picked up the Nightwatch book while in vegas. I'd been hoping they'd get translated since the movies did pretty well.

i'm only 20 pages in, but wanted to make a little complaint. I've only been introduced to 4 characters, but two of them are named "Egor" and "Igor". and not cutsie twin names. two people who don't know each other, have no connection at this point, and were separated by about 15 pages. i had to flip back to figure out what was going on cause i thought it was the same guy for a second.

maybe in russian e/i are really different.

Paul *amused*

i'm sure we've all been somewhere where we couldn't check our e-mail for a few days, so i'm assuming ya'll all know my pain.

Doing the math.
01:31am 12/06/2009
I just realized that for the next ten years I will be paying $1000 a month in service to my education...

I hope I'm not at my parents for the entire duration.

I'll be in Las Vegas in four days, it'll be nice to not be surrounded by moving boxes for a week. They're making things a little too real.
